Apple Crumble Pie with Truvía® Brown Sugar Blend and Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend

Granny’s favourite apple is baked to perfection in this gooey pie, topped with a crisp and buttery crumble. Made with Truvia® Cane Sugar Blend and Truvia® Brown Sugar Blend, this Apple Crumble Pie recipe contains 27% fewer calories and 57% less sugar* than the full-sugar version. Makes 8 servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen (or homemade) pie crust 8”

Topping

  • 1 cup (240 mL) flour

  • 14 cup (60 mL) packed Truvía® Brown Sugar Blend

  • 14 cup (60 mL) packed Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) ground cinnamon

  • 4 Tbsp (60 mL) butter

  • 1-3 tsp (5-15 mL) water (optional)

Filling

  • 8 small granny smith apples, washed

  • ½ Tbsp (8 mL) lemon juice

  • 2 ½ Tbsp (38 mL) Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend

  • 3 Tbsp (45 mL) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) ground cinnamon

  • ⅛ teaspoon (½ mL) ground nutmeg

Directions

  • 1.

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).

  • 2.

    Combine all topping ingredients, except water, using a fork until crumbly. Mixture should resemble a coarse crumb with some small pea-sized pieces remaining.

  • 3.

    If crumb doesn’t form pea-sized pieces, add cold water 1 tsp at a time, while mixing, until peas size crumb form, careful, too much water will form dough.

  • 4.

    Set-aside topping for later use.

  • 5.

    Peel, core, and slice apples into thin slices.

  • 6.

    Toss apple slices with Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour.

  • 7.

    Pour filling into un-baked pie shell (filling will be very high).

  • 8.

    Place pie pan on a cookie sheet, it will drip over.

  • 9.

    Top filling with topping and pat it down over the apples.

  • 10.

    Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C) and bake an additional 40-50 minutes. Test by poking the center of the pie to make sure the apples are soft all of the way through.

  • 11.

    Serve warm or room temperature.

  • 12.

    Cover and refrigerate leftovers.
