2 Tbsp (30 mL) onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1 Tbsp (15 mL) butter
1 cup (250 mL) ketchup
1 cup (250 mL) tomato sauce
1⁄2 cup (125 mL) Truvía® calorie-free sweetener spoonable*
1⁄2 cup (125 mL) red wine vinegar
1⁄4 cup (50 mL) molasses
1⁄2 tsp (2.5 mL) chili powder
1 tsp (5 mL) paprika
1⁄2 tsp (2.5 mL) salt
1⁄2 tsp (2.5 mL) black pepper
1⁄8 tsp (.625 mL) cinnamon
1⁄2 tsp (2.5 mL) cayenne powder
1 Tbsp (15 mL) worcestershire sauce
2 tsp (10 mL) liquid smoke (optional)
Variations
Replace red wine vinegar with another version such as apple cider.
For more heat, add your favourite chilies or ground peppers.
Directions
- 1.
Sauté onion and garlic in butter in medium saucepan.
- 2.
In a separate small bowl, stir together the remaining ingredients.
- 3.
Add to saucepan; simmer for 30 minutes. For thinner sauce, reduce cook time, and for thicker sauce increase cook time.
- 4.
For best results, refrigerate overnight before use.
